Im hatching spotty dotty plans for 2010....

Shoes and Boots

How could anyone not start dribbling over their keyboard at this point??? Arent they stunning! They arrived yesterday and Im chuffed to bits with them. Polka dot ribbons in beautiful colours, and like most of my ribbons they are sourced from a British manufacturer.

I plan to launch a new shoe collection after the New Year which will include vintage style shoes. Simply because I think they are timeless, they suit so many styles of dress old and new, and appeal to all ages! These dotty ribbons will be part of the…. yes youve guessed, DOTTY shoe style! Primarily they will be my own designs from older collections (Ive picked the most popular), revamped and relaunched on the Bristish public!

Ive made a few more drastic changes to Fairysteps too….. These will benefit most but not all customers and they will most definetly benefit me. As anyone whos followed Fairysteps progress over the years knows Ive often had problems with time constraints keeping up with all the work so changing to this new method will help enormously. It just sort of clicked into place in my head and I thought, Yes!!! (but louder than that) thats the way forward!!!

Its all been a case of whittling…..

Ive whittled the shoe categories down to three:

FAIRY SHOES.

VINTAGE STYLE SHOES.

MISC SHOES.

FAIRY SHOES will have 3 styles only to choose from which are, TITANIA, PRICKLE (this is a new style based on the popular Thisbe fairy shoe with a holly leaf lacing panel) and the very popular QUINCE. This collection of shoes will be available in a standard width fitting in sizes UK 4 to 7. There will be a chart on the website showing length and width measurements allowing customers to easily find their size!

The available colours will be Black, Brown, Plum and Olive green.

VINTAGE STYLE SHOES will again have 3 styles which are, BUTTON (previously named homily and up till now not available as bespoke) which features one of my wonderful large leather buttons…, PETAL (previously Petalstrap which was super popular) and last but not least DOTTY (previously spindleberry) which will feature a choice of dotty ribbon decorations! This collection of shoes will be available in a standard width fitting in sizes UK 4 to 8. There will be a chart on the website showing length and width measurements allowing customers to easily find their size!

The available colours will be Black, Brown, Plum and for the more outrageous bubblegum pink or apple green.

The limited colours on the shoes means less mind boggling choice for customers and less storage for me! Im not sure having too much choice is always a good thing. Years ago shoes were made in limited colours for good reason…. they went with everything!

Because of the limited sizes and other options I will be able to draft patterns for this collection to reuse again and again meaning that in theory I should be able to offer a good collection of shoes across the size / colour range in stock ready to buy. This will reduce the foot tapping and finger drumming that my poor customers on the waiting list have to go through now! In fact the shoe waiting list may disappear altogether…. phew.

Im sorry that I wont be catering for very wide feet anymore but having researched on the internet and also by looking through my extensive range of patterns over the years I find that most of my customers are standard size anyway. Also its worth noting that some of the styles have been designed to allow for wider feet and the materials in themselves give to accomadate….

So thats me sorted out! Now Ive got to complete all of the orders up to March to get the Fairysteps studio cleared ready for pattern drafting on a grand scale never known before!!!!! Then its onto frantic shoe production! The shelves will be bulging with shoe boxes…

Any feedback on this plan would be much appreciated!
