The Fairy Shoemaker

Faerysteps started a blog way back when the internet was practically pedal powered (that was in 2008). These days I tend to use Instagram as a daily record but sometimes you just can't beat a good old fashioned diary entry...

Hibernation

Good morning my dears.
Ive been thinking about how to word this ALL night long, so best to just crack on and tap out the words :)
After our days work was done Mr Fairysteps and I had our usual natter across the kitchen table last night and got down to the nitty gritty of how much work we both had lined up for the start of the year. It’s important when you are both self employed to do this...

Getting chilly now...

Gosh, another busy week WISP booting :)

Plus, I used some of that heavenly polished conker leather to make some stock Esthers. Love these with the longer toe shape.

The weather turned decidedly nippier home here so more layers were called for. I always find it a toss up between warmth vs movement... thick wooly jumpers arent an option because I find I get caught up in everything Im...

Grey days... Wispy days

Ive made so many boots lately! And, there are more to come as Ive not finished yet. I still have a great many on my table.

Lots of different colourways which has been fun to put together.

I particularly liked the darker ones.

With Halloween just behind us, they were atmospheric.

But my favourites, were probably the woodland shades, as ever!

Summer is sulking, and Morris Minor ramble...

Summer is sulking. Really sulking. We have gone from warm days full of sun to wet, windy misery. Its quite a shock. We all know it happens but nothing prepares you for when the weather decides a week of Summer is quite enough to be going on with.

Note: extremely long, over enthusiastic, boring ramble about cars will follow (where I pretend I know what Im talking about, and don't, but continue...

Summer flying by...

Its that time of year again where the days are going extra quickly. It seems to be constantly either the start or the end of the week. You know what I mean...

The workshop is busy and we are being very productive, which is always a good thing :) I closed custom yesterday to give us a chance to have a good catch up on both orders and also bootmaking, bag making and general stock building. Has...

New sewing machine

Do hope we make friends :)

Cotton reels and Prickles...

Ive been working on lots of rich orangey tones lately. Its making me want marmalade and toast constantly...

Mocs and Rockers...

Last Saturday I had a little play ;)

While tea was cooking itself and I forsaw a relaxing evening ahead ;)

By Sunday I was still playing in the sunshine. Sat on the bench handstitching. Boot one made. Boot two almost :)

Decided to finish these short moc boots ‘wander’ with a contrast teal fringed top. If I can ever get round to it I may make a few of these with outdoor soles for...

Thread and fabric...

Happy thread colours to cheer up a wet foggyfied day :)

Got ever so slightly carried away in bristol fabric shopping yesterday… ;) looking forward to the next sunny day to wash and tumble dry this lot. I have to wait for sunny days because the washing machine and tumble drier will run off the solar panels then. I only bought a tumbly machine for pre shrinking new fabrics really as it so...

Bristol, Nerves aplenty and the Molly Weasley coat...

Just finished making this knee length jacket (aran weight) 2 nights ago. Its been my ‘in between’ project since finishing the last double blanket a couple of weeks ago. Pure 70s! I love it. I made another one in turquoise / grey last year but forgot to share it. The children seem to snaffle it about the house when its chilly of an evening. Self drafted pattern, crocheted on the wing ;)

Naughty sewing machines and new stock...

JINKS belt pouches in the making. Appliqué placement completed, ready for stitching.

Out of chaos, emerged ISOLDE. Lots of lovely clutch purses getting ready for their applique stitching.

Reggie and I had to have ‘firm’ words about tension and suchlike this afternoon! No place for yumpy tension in my workroom… Reggie apoligised profusely and asked to have the rest of the afternoon...

Stitching magic again...

I cant tell you how much Ive enjoyed making accessories again after such a long break. Its wonderful to work alongside my Husband on these as well :) Keeps both of our sewing machines busy.

There will be lots of these being made over the coming months so do look out for many more.

I thought a little working shot from my studio was in order. Stitching in the sunshine as we have...
