Information

What leathers do you use?

My swatch is ever changing, with my most current colours shown above. All products are made with premium leather hides from gold rated Italian tanneries. Created using age old techniques, these materials are a canvas of their origin. Natural markings are worked into each item embracing the hides individuality to create a unique product.

I use a lighter weight oak bark tanned leather for decoration, these are shown on the swatch uppermost, corresponding to their colour tone match. The leaf colours are usually natural woodland shades.

Who makes the products?

Faerysteps products are all designed and made by Ren, one unique item at a time. When I am making stock items I literally select a hide and follow where my inspiration takes me, its such fun. Working from my woodland studio with a cup of tea at my elbow and birdsong to cheer me along I have been sewing for decades. I still love every minute, work & play every day, pinch me. I'm 55 and having a wonderful time 🙂 long may it continue.

I want Made To Order: shoes / boots / bags.

Being a lone worker my output is limited to how much I can physically make each month. Because of this I often switch to exclusively making ready made stock for extended periods 😊 Occasionally I offer random custom listings, if so there will be a BIG notice on the homepage, so please don't ask when. I cannot give maybe dates. Thank you for your patience and support in my rather unorthodox way of working.

What inspires you?

Inspiration from the Woodlands surrounding my home constantly finds it's way into my work, but I also look to the past. I was a 70s child in a magical time pre technology overload where it was literally another universe. The world was orange, brown, saddle tan and covered in ditsy flower cottons. If any one of my leathergoods or garments helps you to travel to a happy place my mission is complete.

Do you post Worldwide?

Available destinations are shown at checkout, these include England, Scotland, Wales, USA, Canada, Australia & New Zealand. Shipping rates are shown at checkout and vary for each item. Please note, International customers are responsible for any custom fees incurred on arrival. Unfortunately I am no longer able to post to European countries.

*USA customers only - No need to worry about the newly imposed tariff charges. I will post via the Royal Mail  PDDP scheme which enables your parcel to quickly reach you. Usual customs charges may apply as before.

How long before delivery?

Your order should arrive within 3 to 5 working days. Tracking details are sent at the time of posting. In the unlikely event that your parcel arrives damaged DO NOT throw away the packaging, instead photograph the parcel before unpacking as proof. Without proof you will not be able to submit a claim to the post office. Likewise, if your parcel does not arrive do contact the postal service quoting the tracking number given at the time of dispatch.

I have changed my mind, can I return my order?

Ready Made / Stock items can be returned, unused, unopened & in their original packaging within 14 days, as per UK distance selling laws. Refunds are subject to condition of the returned product and will include a 10% deduction for handling / restocking / & fees that I will have had to pay for the sale.

All custom / made to order sales are final and are non refundable. Incredibly expensive materials alongside hours of painstaking work have gone into completing your order.

FOOTWEAR INFORMATION - Please read before ordering footwear!

Footwear available in sizes UK 2 to UK 7 with styles designed to adapt to various width fittings adjusting from narrow to wide.

How to measure
Use the diagram below to take your length measurement (both feet), and compare to size chart below. Allow wiggle room based on your own personal preference.

Our shoes are generous. Customers nearly always 'size down' so as a general rule, order one size down from your usual commercial shoe size, eg: usual size = EU 39 / UK 6, order size = EU 38 / UK 5. Half sizes should go down to the next full size below.

Place a sheet of paper and your heel against a straight wall. With pencil held upright, mark the longest toe. If ordering boots wear socks when measuring, for shoes, feet should be barefoot.

INTERIOR FINISHED LENGTH

UK 2 - Length: 22.9 cm
UK 3 - Length: 23.8 cm
UK 4 - Length: 24.7 cm
UK 5 - Length: 25.6 cm
UK 6 - Length: 26.5 cm
UK 7 - Length: 27.4 cm

Example; my foot length measurement is 25.5 cm and I am a high street shoe size of UK 7. I select size UK 6 for boots & shoes.

Overseas Sizing Conversion Table & Order notes for International customers

UK 2 / US 4 / EU 34
UK 3 / US 5 / EU 35.5
UK 4 / US 6 / EU 37
UK 5 / US 7 / EU 38
UK 6 / US 8 / EU 39
UK 7 / US 9 / EU 40.5

Conversions are approximate, measure before ordering & check the chart. An International customer who wears a US size 8 would convert to a UK 6, but will need to select UK 5 when ordering, thus following the 'down one size' rule.

Please note: Customers are responsible for taking accurate measurements following the detailed instructions given. Your footwear has been made to order & as such I am unable to offer returns or exchanges.

Fitting notes for STOCK FOOTWEAR (enclosed with each pair).
Footwear should feel comfortably snug, not squished. ONLY when you are completely happy with the initial fit should you wear them. If worn, for any length of time at all, they cannot be returned (stock only). This includes walking around your home for periods of time to check for fit, simply because your foot will begin to imprint on the insole and the shoe will start to adopt the shape of your foot. It is the nature and beauty of handmade shoes, but it does render them unsuitable for reselling as new.

What soling materials do you use?

Faerysteps handmade shoes & boots use Vibram, a durable, highly flexible, lightweight, cushioned, soling made in Italy. Zero drop soling is offered as standard but you can request a shallow heel or a chunky wedge. The full leather upper will allow your foot to bed into the sole creating its own unique cradle, offering glove like comfort.
When the time comes your footwear can be resoled by your local cobbler thus extending the life of your shoes and avoiding landfill sites.
